Curator’s Statement

Earth is the Answer is less an exhibition than a meditation: a gathering of images that ask us to pause, to listen, to remember. In these works, the earth is not a backdrop but a speaking presence—a witness to centuries of extraction and neglect, and yet, astonishingly, a source of renewal.

Morohunmubo Olayemi Afolabi paints with the sensibility of an architect and the urgency of a sustainability advocate. Her canvases draw from the rhythms of cities, coastlines, and fragile ecosystems, weaving together textures of stone, water, and sky. They do not depict landscapes in a conventional sense; rather, they become maps of possibility, tracing the delicate balance between what has been built and what must be preserved.

There is a poetics of survival in this body of work. Forms repeat like echoes of memory, colors bend toward the elemental—blues that recall oceans threatened by overuse, earthen tones that suggest both depletion and fertility. In each gesture lies a quiet insistence: that our future depends on reimagining our relationship to the planet.

To stand before these works is to be confronted not with despair, but with a call. They invite us to imagine a world in which progress does not eclipse preservation, where architecture, art, and ecology form a single, breathing continuum. Earth is the Answer reminds us that sustainability is not only a technical solution, but a cultural one—a vision we must nurture collectively, with care and imagination.
